Projects

For 20 years members of the Society have been transcribing and indexing the records of Cambridgeshire, including parish registers, the 19th century census returns, poll books, poor law papers and many miscellaneous sources. Copies of all the resultant transcripts are placed on open access at the County Record Office, Shire Hall, Cambridge and in the Library of the Society of Genealogists in London. Search services into many of the indexes are available at moderate cost.

It is current policy to publish all parish register transcripts and large indexes on microfiche, as projects are completed. Copies are for sale on the Society Bookstall.

Details of the holdings of CFHS project work at Cambridge Record Office are included in Genealogical Sources in Cambridgeshire, available from the Bookstall.

Volunteers

Project work is carried out by volunteers under the direction of the Project Co-ordinator. Large projects can take several years to complete and require the input of significant numbers of people. If you would like to help in any way, please contact the Project Co-ordinator. Access to a computer is particularly welcome, but not essential.

To enable the various projects to be coordinated within the Society a sub-committee meets on a Saturday to shcedule and plan new and existing projects. This sub-committee is formed as required.

Further details of projects and how you can take part can be found on the Projects Information page.
