For 30 years the members of Cambridgeshire Family History Society have been transcribing and indexing the records of the ancient counties of Cambridgeshire and the Isle
All Parish Registers for the counties are now transcribed and available on searchable CDRom, complete and checked against Bishop's Transcripts, which is a magnificent achievement.
Other complete transcriptions include Censuses 1841-1871, Poor Law Papers and Wisbech Shipping Papers. On-going projects include Non Conformist Records, Quarter Sessions and the Cambridge Borough Archive.
Project work is carried out by volunteers under the direction of the Projects Co-ordinator
and her team. Large projects may take years to complete and require the input of dozens of people. If you would like to help in any way please contact the Project Co-ordinator.
The work includes typing into a document compatible with Microsoft Word [for example Minutes from non-conformist churches, which are rich in names], transcribing many types of document - sometimes including difficulty handwriting or occasionally Latin [into a Word table or Excel, or a text document compatible with that software] and checking [which can be transcription against hardcopy, or against images from a CD].
