CAMBRIDGESHIRE WILLS SURNAME INDEX

The Cambridgeshire FHS is aware that there is much information to be gleaned from wills. The problem with wills is that you have to read them before you find those people involved in them. Most wills are indexed by the Testator/Testatrix (the person whose Will it is). This is not much use when searching for other people mentioned within the will. To overcome this problem the CFHS are building an on-line wills surname index that will be searchable. Initially we are looking for any information involving a Cambridgeshire will that we can enter into our database. If you have that information then we would like to have it so we can share it freely with others. (The database will be a FREE searchable unlimited search database).

The CAMWISDEX database contains the names of those beneficiaries, kin, witnesses etc., whose surname is not the same as that of the Testator/Testatrix (the person whose will it is). The wills will be, principally, from the Consistory Court of Ely, The Court of the Archdeaconry of Ely or the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. Please refer to the original document for verification of data. The relevant repository and document call number are included.
