| Ref CITY-BUNDLE-213
Overview
The Cambridge City Roll of Honour
is in the form of a bundle of forms and scraps of
paper returned by various citizens of Cambridge to
create a Roll of Honour for those men who served in
World War 1. Roughly there are around 520 entries
which is only a part of all the men from Cambridge
that went to war. The forms were designed to illicit
various pieces of information; their name, home address,
the service they were with, particulars of the Battalion,
Unit or Ship, their rank, approximate age, their marital
status, whether they enlisted before or after the
outbreak of war, the name and address of the person
submitting the information.
This information has been transcribed
and reproduced from these forms, and sometimes scraps
of paper. Many of the forms were incomplete, incorrectly
completed or contain partial information. The transcription
has been researched to enhance and/or expand the information
given. A further section has been added that contains,
wherever possible, notes about the individuals that
are pertinent. These indicate where only initials
were used, where extra information was included from
and some background information.
While researching the men on the
Roll of Honour it was possible to identify several
that did not return, giving their lives in the line
of duty. These men have the additional date of death
in their entry in blue. Where duplications of information
have been submitted by more than one source then these
have been merged together. The names of the men included
have been expanded as much as is possible using corroborative
sources. |
